I chose to evaluate Edmundson's stereotype of the average college student. I, being a sophomore in college, was, at first, insulted by his accusation that college students are passionless, but then decided that I agreed with him.
Most college students are only enrolled in college to please their parents. Parents pressure their kids into going to college because that is the way are society is set up. We hear over and over again that without a college education we will never make a lot of money and that nobody wants to hire someone with only a high school diploma. I don't disagree with any of those statements; however I do think that the harder parents and teachers pressure kids to go to college, the less they want to go.
Our senior year of high school is all about deciding where to go to college and teachers attempt to prepare students for the difficulty of college. Most students actually take college classes while they're still in high school. When I was faced with the decision to either take core classes and still graduate or take advance classes or do concurrent enrollment, I chose not to try and get too ahead of myself; I wanted to enjoy high school while I could and to take it slow and, when the time came for me to go to college, I would worry about college.
I think that a lot of teens and young adults and spoiled when it comes to their education. We attend school as long as we can remember and its never a question whether we get to go or not, we just have to. I know that I take school for granted and I know that there are children in third world countries that would give anything to have the opportunities that I have.
A few things that I'll share with you to help you get to know me are; I went to high school here in St. George, I went to Snow Canyon so BOO PANTHERS!! Just kidding! I play volleyball throughout high school and now I play here at Dixie. I love it here in St. George and I plan on raising my family here so I can totally understand why you ended up coming back! My boyfriend will be on the golf team here next fall....and I think that's it! I am looking forward to this class!
